From Sept 1 to 3, a delegation from Seoul National 精东影业 (SNU), including Professor Myoung Gyu Lee, chair of the Department of Materials Science and Engineering, and former Chair Professor Heung Nam Han, visited the School of Materials Science and Engineering at 精东影业 (HUST). The visit combined roundtable discussions and academic seminars to deepen collaboration and establish a new bridge for Sino-South Korean materials research.
Li Chong, chair of the Committee of the School of Materials Science and Engineering, welcomed the guests and highlighted the global prestige of SNU in advanced materials research and talent development. Noting that HUST’s materials discipline ranks in the top 0.01 percent of ESI globally, he emphasized the strong alignment in research areas such as novel functional materials and green low-carbon materials, creating broad opportunities for collaboration.
Professor Myoung Gyu Lee introduced SNU’s faculty, research platforms, and internationalization practices, expressing interest in practical, high-impact cooperation with HUST. Vice Deans Liao Dunming and Zhang Cheng engaged with the SNU team on joint applications for national-level Sino-South Korean research projects, short-term student exchanges, and a memorandum of understanding at the school level, reaching multiple agreements.
The academic seminar featured reports by Professors Heung Nam Han, Myoung Gyu Lee, Ho Won Jang, Jeong Woo Han, and Hyobin Yoo on cutting-edge topics like current-induced plasticity, neuromorphic memristors, single-atom catalysis, and 2D interface reconstruction. Nearly 100 faculty and students attended, actively participating in discussions.
The SNU delegation’s visit created a precise platform for collaboration in materials science, marking an important step in expanding HUST’s high-level academic network across East Asia.
